I came to San Marco, not as crowded as it might have been. |
It's a great place for kids, with lions to climb |
and birds to feed |
and brilliant mosaics to admire. |
Restorations were not always reconstructions; this is a late mosaic. |

and I take the pictures that remind me of those I took fifty years ago. |
The twins are still on the corner of S. Marco |
And the lion still guards the entrance (exit) to the Doges' Palace |
with its diaper patterned walls.. |
Inside its courtyard |

the lacy walls shine brightly |
Inside it's all golden baroque |
and you can look out as you pass through the Bridge of Sighs. |

or back on it once you've left. |
