THE TWO SITES ARE LOCATED IN THE HIGH JURASSIC SIERRAS OF THE ISLAND

AND DIFFER GREATLY IN GEOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT.

BOTH HOWEVER HAVE PROVIDED THE OLDEST RECORD OF HUMAN OCCUPATION OF THE

BALEARIC ISLANDS AND HUMAN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ENDEMIC EXTINCT FAUNA

 

THE MULETA CAVE ENTRANCE IS LOCATED AT THE BASE OF AN ERRODED ROCK OUTCROP.

THE CAVE IS A LIMESTONE SOLUTION CAVE THE RESULT OF WATER EROSION.

 

 

THE ROCK SHELTER OF SON MATGE IS FORMED BY A HUGE ROCK DISPLACEMENT FROM A

NEARBY MOUNTAIN, THE RESULT OF TECTONIC MOVEMENT AND EROSION.
